Elders in Our Midst: Showcasing Senior Climate Action and Environmental Wisdom Across Generations
Details
This Elders Circle Project connects and celebrates seniors across British Columbia who have contributed to climate action in their communities. Through intergenerational interviews and hand-painted portraits by Joy Hanser, the project highlights the unique experiences, knowledge, and efforts of these Elders. Youth-led interviews bring these stories of senior climate action to life, while the accompanying portraits offer a visual tribute to their impact, inspiring people of all ages to recognize the diverse ways we can care for our planet and foster community-driven climate action.
The goal of Elders in Our Midst is to inspire people of all ages by showing how diverse approaches can contribute to climate action. Examples of senior climate actions range from repairing and reusing items, creating art and music that raise awareness, making and sharing food sustainably, and teaching eco-friendly practices to supporting community gardens, sustainable fashion, and local markets.
This project encourages seniors to share their wisdom, reminding us all of the important role older generations play in creating a sustainable future. By weaving these stories together, we hope to build stronger connections across generations and inspire everyone to take action for our planet.
