Schools and community organizations collect used cell phones as part of PITCH-IN CANADA's National Cell Phone Recycling Program. The ongoing program diverts old cell phones from going to the dump while providing funds for good causes.
Cell phone handsets collected are refurbished or remanufactured to 'as new' condition. They are then sent to emerging countries where the price of a new cell phone is unaffordable for most people. The phones are also provided, at no cost, to other Canadians in disadvantaged situations. Phones and batteries that cannot be reused are recycled to recover metals and plastics.
